DoctoralPrograminEmpowermentInformatics(5-yeardoctoralprogram)28●FeaturesoftheDegreeProgramsTheword“empowerment”originallymeansto“giveabilitiesandpowerstopeople.Ithasbeenusedinasociologi-calsensetoexplaintheprocessofrealizingasocietywhereindividualsorgroupscanexerttheirlatentabilities.Inrecentyears,empowermenthasbeenpracticedintheeldsofnursingandbusiness.EmpowermentInformaticsisabranchofinformaticsthathasbeensystematizedtoencourageandsupporthumanindependenceandau-tonomy,improvingthequalityoflife.Inordertodeveloptheabilitiesstudentsneedtocreatesystemscapableofempoweringpeople,weofferanuniquecurriculumfocusedondevelopingthreecompetences:InterdisciplinaryAbility,PresentationAbility,andFrontlineAbility.Wehaveestablishedacollaborativesysteminamultidisciplinaryeldconsistingofinformatics,engineer-ing,art,psychology,neuroscience,clinicalmedicine,nursingscience,businessscience,andcorporatelaw,andfosterglobalhumanresources;aimingtotaketheinitiativeanddesignsystemsthatempowerpeopleinaninternationalcommunitywithdiverseculturalbackgrounds.●CompetencesoftheDegreeProgramsStudentsareabletoacquirethefollowingcompetencesupuntilcompletion.GenericCompetences5-yearDoctoralProgramAbilitytocreateknowledgeManagementabilityCommunicationabilityLeadershipabilityInternationalcharacterSpecicCompetences5-yearDoctoralProgramInterdisciplinaryabilityAbilitytoapplyspecializedknowledgeandrelevantknowledgeintheeldofhumaninformaticstovariousissues.PresentationabilityAbilitytosetcutting-edgeresearchtasksandproduceinternationallyrecognizedresearchoutcomes.FrontlineabilityAbilitytoplantosolvereal-worldissuesandgiveapresentationonthem,basedonethicalstandardsandethicalknowledgeappropriateforresearchersorhighly-skilledprofessionalsintheeldofhumaninformatics.●AchievementLevelAssessmentSystem(ALAS)ALASenablesstudentstoconrmtheirachievementstatusrelatedtoknowledgeandabilities(generic/speciccompetences)whichmustbeacquiredandimprovetheirlearningplanwiththeirsupervisors.・Assessmentoflearningoutcomesisconductedbasedon"StandardsofAchievementLevelAssessment".・AttheEMPseminarsofthe1stand2ndyear,studentsreporttheirresearchprogressandgetassessmentandfeedback.5-yearDoctoralProgram・Attheendofthe1stto4thyear,studentssubmittheirAchievementLevelSelf-AssessmentReport,undergotheAchievementLevelAssessmentfromtheresearchsupervisorandconrmtheirresearchprogress.・Attheendofthe2ndyear,theQualifyingExamination(QE)isconducted.WhenstudentspassQE,theyareabletoearntheMaster'sdegreeandthenstarttheresearchfordoctoraldissertation.・WhenstudentspasstheFinalAssessmentofStudentAchievement(FASA)conductedatthe5thyear,theyareabletosubmitthedoctoraldissertation.
