Ｑ I previously underwent eligibility screening and received approval to apply. I am planning to take the entrance exam again. Do I have to undergo eligibility screening again?
Ａ If you did not meet application eligibility criteria stated in the application guidline at the time of application, you will have to undergo eligibility screening again.
Prior contact with faculties (2)
Ａ You may contact the faculties after confirming their email address on the department’s website pages or their personal website pages.
Ａ The following are possible reasons why you did not receive a reply.
- The text in your message may have been unreadable.
- The content of your email is not clear.
→ On occasion, email text sent via a webmail service in a language other than Japanese, such as Korean or Chinese, becomes corrupt during transmission and cannot be read.
If you intend to send email in Japanese via webmail, we recommend that you send your email after obtaining an account from a Japanese webmail service.
→ Providing specific, concise details of your personal history and study plans will assist the faculty in replying to your email and giving you appropriate advice on your research and other matters.

→ Many faculties receive extremely large number of emails, and there is a possibility some email may be overlooked during busy periods when the faculty is away on business or other matters. Please resend your email.

Ｑ If I repeated a year and was enrolled in a Japanese university for five years in total, what should I enter in 4. Educational Background?
Ａ Even if you repeated a year, the period of study is 4 years. Therefore, please enter “4.”
Ａ If you have not yet pressed the “Submit to Apply” button, you can upload the photo again.
If you have already pressed the “Submit to Apply” button, please forward the correct photo to the Graduate Student Affairs Office as an email attachment. We will issue a new Reference Card.
Ｑ If there is incorrect information on the online application form I input, will I be able to correct it?
Ａ Please notify the Graduate Student Affairs Office and forward the following details via email. After confirming the details, we will make relevant corrections on the application data.

Ｑ If I passed the exam for the “Certificate for Students Achieving the Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates,” what should I enter in 4. Educational Background?

Please enter the name of the school to which the “Certificate for Students Achieving the Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates” applies. For the date of entry and date of graduation, please enter the date you passed the certificate exam. For the period of study, enter “3.”
[If you started high school and later left school]
Please enter the name of the school and the date of entry. For the date of graduation, enter the date you left school. For the period of study, enter “3.”
In the “Remarks” section under Educational Background, please enter the following: Passed the Certificate for Students Achieving the Proficiency Level of Upper Secondary School Graduates on [month] [day], [year].

Ａ If you can be identified from the photo on your card, it is not a problem.
Ａ Please contact the Graduate Student Affairs Office by email. We will correct the orientation of the photo and send you a new Reference Card.
Ａ If you live near the University of Tsukuba and you can visit the Academic Service Office for the Systems and Information Engineering Area (3A201), we will reissue the card. If you do not live near the school, please follow procedures for the reissue of the card on the day of examination.
Ｑ What should I do if I forgot to print out the Form for Submission of the English Score during the application period?
Ａ Please contact the Graduate Student Affairs Office by email. We will forward it to you by email attachment.
Ｑ What should I do if the sections for examinee number or name come out blank when I print out the PDF?
Ａ Please try printing out the PDF on another printer. If the sections still remain blank, please enter the information in handwriting.
Submission of certificates by mail or hand (11)
Ｑ I expect to graduate from an advanced course at a technical college (Koutousenmongakko). What kind of certifications are required?
Ａ You need a certificate of application for the (prospective) conferment of a degree (please request this of the technical college you are attending), a certificate of expected completion of your advanced course, a transcript of your grades in your advanced course, and a transcript of your grades in your regular course.
Ｑ If I am currently enrolled in a specialised training college (Senmongakkou), do I need to submit a letter of approval to take the examination?
Ａ It is not required if you are enrolled in a vocational or other such school that does not confer degrees.
Ｑ Details certifying my graduation and my receipt of a degree are combined in a single letter of certification. Is this acceptable?
Ａ That is fine. Please submit the single document.
Ｑ Details certifying my graduation and my transcript are contained in a single certifying document. Is this acceptable?
Ａ That is fine. Please submit the single document.
Ｑ I completed my studies at a university overseas, and I was issued only a certificate of completion. Do I still need a document certifying that I received a degree?
Ａ A document certifying your receipt of a degree is necessary. If the certificate of completion or your transcripts state the name of the degree you received, there is no need for any other document certifying your receipt of a degree.
Ａ The documents do not need to be sealed.
Ｑ I work full-time at present but I intend to resign from my job if I pass the entrance examination. Will I be required to submit a letter of approval from my company to take the examination?
Ａ That is not necessary. Simply submit a statement written by you indicating that taking the exam will not interfere with your work.
Ａ Insofar as possible, please provide certifying documents issued within the past three months.
Ｑ I took the entrance examination on August. If I am going to take the exam on February, do I still need to submit transcripts?
Ａ Even if you plan to reapply, you will have to prepare all certifying documents specified in the application guidelines for the entrance examination, and follow procedures for applying. The same applies to payment of the examination fee.
Ａ If there is any problem with your application or other documents, we will notify you. If we does not contact you, this means that your documents have been accepted.
Ａ As a general rule, we does not return any documents that are submitted. Among the documents you submit, however, if there are original documents that will not be reissued, please attach to your application a memo containing the details stated below. Your documents will be returned at the Academic Service Office for the Systems and Information Engineering Area after completion of the entrance examination. Please inquire at the Academic Service Office.

TOEIC Official Score Certificate, or TOEFL Test Taker Score Report (4)
Ａ Yes. This is necessary for assessment as a foreign language exam subject.
Ｑ If I do not have a TOEIC Official Score Certificate or TOEFL Test Taker Score Report by the time I need to submit my application, will I still be able to proceed with my application?
Ａ The certificate or report is not required at the time of application. However, please be sure to bring it with you on the examination day. If you cannot bring it with you on the day, you will be considered absent from the test for English as a subject, and you will be excluded as an applicant from the selection process.
Ｑ I will need my TOEIC Official Score Certificate (or TOEFL Test Taker Score Report) to take the examination of other universities, and therefore I would like it returned to me.
Ａ We are unable to return the certificate to you.
Ｑ Is it okay to submit a copy of the TOEIC Official Score Certificate (or TOEFL Test Taker Score Report) acceptable?
Ａ We are unable to accept any copies.

Please note that details of the oral examination are not made available.

Details of the examination venue will be posted on the notice board for entrance examination information at the Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering by 10:00 am on the day prior to commencement of the examination period. Please check the information on the notice board beforehand or on the examination day (in that case, please be sure to arrive well in advance).
Please note that we will not contact individual examinees beforehand in regard to the time of the exam or other matters. However, information about certain majors may be provided through their respective websites. Please check the notes in “6. Screening Criteria” in the application guidelines of your prospective major.
Ａ It depends on your country of residence. You may be required to have a short-term visa. Please make an inquiry at the local Japanese embassy or consulate.
After the announcement of successful applicants (2)
Ａ If you were unable to receive the documents due to the expiration of the holding period at your post office, please obtain the documents directly from the Division of Educational Promotion. If you live some distance from the university, we may be able to arrange for the documents to be forwarded to you, with forwarding charges payable on delivery.
